France's Nicolas Sarkozy is not known for his self-control, but calling journalists paedophiles is, arguably, a new low. French journalists have fought "a long battle" to carve themselves a space free from government intervention. Under Sarkozy's government, however, there has been a serious backslide to the bad old days.
