Egypt building surveillance towers along Gaza Strip

The towers, which look like those in East Berlin during the days of the Wall, are part of Egypt's measures to step up the restrictions on importing basic items, including food, into Gaza.

The steel and concrete towers, are being built near the Rafah Crossing.

Israeli daily Ha'aretz has reported towers are in existence to also monitor people and transport movements along the border

Cairo has recently announced the construction of an underground steel wall to disrupt the network of tunnels that runs under under the Gaza-Egypt border.
