Man opens fire on Dallas police with assault rifle

A Dallas police officer and a civilian were wounded Sunday evening when a man with an assault rifle opened fire on a patrol car in Pleasant Grove, police said. The civilian who was wounded was not seriously hurt, police said.
Police said the gunman was "down."
It was not immediately known what triggered the violence.
The patrol car was heavily damaged with multiple bullet holes in the windshield.
